Nativity Dances

for small orchestra

Written originally in 1998, and based on some incidental music I wrote for the John Tydeman play Dawn On Our Darkness, the Nativity Dances were rescored and refined during 2020.

The first performance (in 1998) was by the Rugby Rococo Players to whom the work was dedicated. There are six movements each depicting a different aspect of the Christmas story: Advent, Star Rise, Pastorale, Nativity, A Journeying, Emmanuel. The first and last are based on the well-known plainsong melody Veni Emmanuel.
