Composed in 1980 when Scott-Burt was seventeen. This was always considered to be his "Opus 1", being the first piece truly to show compositional style and technique beginning to emerge. The sonata  is simple and direct in form and shows a constructional neatness along with harmonic confidence and consistency . In three short movements: Allegro, Andante Pastorale, and Fugue (Maestoso).
