This Toccata. (subtitled "On the Birthday ofJames And Emily" - the composer's first-born twins) was completed a month or so before their arrival, and first performed by David Poulter at Coventry Cathedral on Advent Sunday morning 1992, following their Christening at the morning eucharist. The part for cello is optional, and its notes are cued into the organ part to be played on an expressive solo stop if needed.
